Install Sophos Endpoint Protection with Full Disk Encryption for Self-Managed University-Owned Computers

Windows

These instructions are only for self-managed, university-owned computers. Do not follow these instructions for personally-owned computers or computers that are managed by IT.

Before you start

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet
  2. Make sure you do not have McAfee endpoint protection installed.
    To remove McAfee endpoint protection, follow these instructions.
  1. Download the Sophos installer with full disk encryption for Windows.
  2. Double click the downloaded file to run the installer. It should be located in your Downloads folder, with the name Sophos_WinOS_with_Bitlocker.
  3. Click Yes on the User Account Control dialog. You may be prompted for your computer's admin username and password.
  4. The Sophos Endpoint Protection Installer will launch. Click the Install button.
  5. When the installation is complete, the installer will request that you restart your computer. Please save any unsaved work at that time before left-clicking on the Finish button.
  6.  After the reboot, the Sophos Device Encryption dialog will open. Click Apply to allow the drive to be encrypted. Your drive will now be encrypted, and an encryption key will be generated.

Mac OS

These instructions are only for self-managed, university-owned computers. Do not follow these instructions for personally-owned computers or computers that are managed by IT.

Before you start

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet
  2. Make sure you do not have McAfee endpoint protection installed.
    To remove McAfee endpoint protection, follow these instructions.
  1. Download the Sophos installer with full disk encryption for Mac OS.
  2. Double-click the downloaded file.
  3. Open the resulting folder, SophosInstall_with_Encryption.
  4. Double-click the Sophos Installer to open it and click Install. A dialog may warn you that the application was downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

  5. Once the Sophos Installer has opened, click Install.
  6. In the Install Helper dialog, enter your computer's administrator username and password, and click Install Helper to begin the installation.

  7. On the System Extension Blocked dialog, click Open Security Preferences.
  8. The Security & Privacy System Preferences panel will open. Click Allow in the lower right.
  9. After the installation is complete, the Sophos Device Encryption dialog will open. Enter the login password and click Encrypt.
