Administrative Usage

Our license for IBM SPSS Statistics is limited to “Teaching and Research” usage.  For Administrative usage, a different license must be purchased directly from IBM. Please review the definitions below to confirm that your use qualifies as Teaching and Research:

• Teaching/Research usage is limited to Faculty engaging in non-commercial research activities, classroom instruction, and coursework directly related to the UMass's degree requirements.This includes the formulation of theses and dissertations. Non-commercial academic research means research by faculty members where the results of such research are not intended primarily for the benefit of a third party; such results are made available to anyone without restriction on use, copying or further distribution; and any copy of such result is furnished for no more than the cost of hosting, reproduction, and shipping. Any other use of the T&R license, including but not limited to university administration and operations is strictly prohibited.
• All usage that does not fall under Teaching and Research is considered Administrative. This includes institutional research and any such use related to reporting about the University to the University. Software licensed for Administrative usage may only be used by UMass employees.

Purchase SPSS Licenses

1. Fill out the SPSS Registration Form.
2. You will receive a new authorization code for each license you purchased and more information on how to download the software via email. If you are requesting the free Windows add-ons, you will receive a separate code for each. Installation Instructions & Guides I System Requirements
3. Checks may be mailed to A109, Lederle Graduate Center, or brought in person. Your license will be granted when your payment is received. Payment by check, speedtype or UCard must include Massachusetts sales tax for both renewal and media fee. Contact IT at 545-TECH to determine the exact amount.
4. Note: All software license sales are final! Read the System Requirements carefully to be sure the software will work on your system.

Renew Your SPSS License(s)

To renew your SPSS License(s), please:

1. Fill out the Software Request Form for SPSS.

SPSS for Students

For students, IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows or Macintosh is available with 6 or 12 month software license through OnTheHub. Students can get SPSS Statistics Base GradPack, SPSS Statistics Standard GradPack, which includes the Advanced Statistics and Regression modules, or SPSS Statistics Premium GradPack, with many more statistical modules. The Premium Grad Pack is very similar to IT's site license but is limited to student purchase.
