Exchange Automatic Email Replies or "Out of Office" Messages

Overview

Exchange allows you to to set automatic replies to incoming email. Automatic replies are especially useful if you are on vacation or otherwise unable to respond to your incoming email.

Automatic replies are sent by UMass Amherst IT's Exchange server not your email program. Once you set up automatic replies, Exchange automatically replies to messages no matter what email program you use, even if your email program is not running.

You must configure automatic replies to messages sent from other UMass Amherst IT Exchange users and automatic replies to messages sent from other sources separately. Note: Microsoft explains this distinction in terms of senders "within an organization" and "external to an organization". This assumes that everyone within an organization is using the same Microsoft Exchange system.
