Two-Step Login Options

Two-step login (a.k.a. multi-factor authentication) through Duo provides additional security when you log into select UMass services. Two-step login requires you to sign in normally with your NetID and password, then prompts you to verify your identity by sending a confirmation to another device, such as your mobile phone, tablet, or landline.

Get Duo on a Specific Device

iPhone (iOS) / iPad (iPadOS)

Android

Download Duo Mobile from Google Play

Landline

If you cannot download the Duo Mobile app or would like to authenticate via a landline, you can receive a phone call.

  1. At the authentication prompt, from the Device drop-down menu, select or verify the device you want to receive a call from.
  2. Click Call Me, and Duo will call you.
  3. Press any key on your phone after listening to the prompt to log into the service on the web browser.

Text message (SMS)

You can also receive a text from Duo by selecting the device you want to receive a text on (this should be the device enrolled with Duo).

  1. On a web browser, at the authentication prompt, select the device you would like to receive a text on.
  2. Click Enter a Passcode.
  3. A blue dialog appears that says Enter a passcode from Duo Mobile or a text. Click Text me new codes.
  4. On your phone, you will receive a text with several passcodes.
  5. On the web browser, above the login button, enter one of the passcodes and click Log in.

Hardware tokens

Duo supports hardware tokens, which are key fob type devices that generate a token code.

A small number of hardware tokens are available for purchase for from the IT Repair Center. If departments need a large number of tokens, contact IT User Services to initiate a request for a quote from the vendor.
