RESOLVED: SPIRE Availability Issues Amid Maintenance to Activate Two-Step Login – Mon., 7/31

Campus community members now access SPIRE with a new, more secure login experience, which you can see in the video posted below. 

The new system mirrors the same experience as other campus services such as email and Zoom, creating a simplified, consistent login experience and providing significant protections against the latest information security threats. Two-step login is now enabled for an added layer of security, protecting accounts from fraudulent access. Exceptions do apply. Alumni, parents, applicants, and delegates are not required to use two-step login.

The SPIRE login upgrade is part of a multi-year effort to optimize the user experience and enhance the security of the campus IT infrastructure. Standardizing how students, faculty, and staff access IT and other campus services advances our strategic goal to deliver a technology ecosystem that prioritizes resiliency, security, and a positive user experience.

SPIRE Upgrade Maintenance Updates

As of 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 31st, 2023, UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) reports the UMass Amherst student information system, SPIRE, is now available, as is two-step login.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31st, 2023, UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) reports the UMass Amherst student information system, SPIRE, is currently unavailable. This comes amid planned maintenance this morning on the SPIRE login page to activate two-step login.

As we work to resolve the issues, there may be some interruptions in production Spire access.

On Monday, July 31st, 2023, between 7-9 a.m., UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) will be performing planned maintenance on the login page for SPIRE, the UMass Amherst student information system. During that time, IT will activate Single Sign On (SSO) and two-step login on SPIRE. Prepare for intermittent access during the maintenance window.
