UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) will be retiring the UMass IT authenticated SMTP service for outgoing emails (mail-auth.oit.umass.edu) on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. Users of this service should use SMTP settings from Google or Office365 going forward. Both Google and Office365 SMTP require clients that support Modern Authentication - Basic Authentication is no longer supported.
Here are actions you can take now to avoid service interruptions:
- Update your settings for either Google or Microsoft SMTP servers
- Install or update to the latest version of Mail or Outlook on your computer or mobile device(s).
- Access your email online
- For Google Mail at mail.google.com
- For Office 365 email at outlook.office.com
- Remove and re-add the account configuration of any email clients using IMAP/POP protocol where the SMTP or sending server was specified as mail-auth.oit.umass.edu.
If you experience a service interruption and need help troubleshooting, please contact the IT Service Desk at it@umass.edu.
Thank you for your patience as we information security, strengthen campus infrastructure, and protect personal and university data against cybersecurity threats.
