Infoblox DNS Malware Protection Now Active on Campus Networks, Tues. 8/11August 14, 2015On August 11, 2015, UMass Amherst IT expanded its Infobox DNS malware protection to wired networks across campus. Infoblox DNS malware protection has been in place on campus wireless networks since December, 2014. DNS malware protection helps protect the campus network by blocking access to known harmful website domains. This service aims to reduce the number of malware infections caused by drive-by downloads, malicious downloads, or phishing, and will reduce the effectiveness of botnet infections on university computers. |
UPDATE: Wired and Wireless Networks Now Available, Wed., 7/29July 29, 2015UPDATE: UMass Amherst IT has restored wired and wireless connectivity to areas affected by a power outage on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, 2015. The wired and wireless networks were unavailable in multiple buildings on campus from approximately 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. UMass Amherst IT is aware of a wired and wireless network outage in multiple buildings on campus beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, due to a power outage. We are working to remedy the issue and will update members of the university community when service is restored. |

Security Alert! Patch Adobe Flash Now for Critical VulnerabilityJuly 9, 2015Adobe has released a security update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. This patch addresses a critical vulnerability that could allow an attacker to remotely execute code and gain control of targeted computers. There are reports of this vulnerability being currently exploited. We recommend UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff install the Adobe Flash update on their computers. |
