Moodle in the Cloud vs Legacy Moodle: Which Version Should I Use?

Starting in April 2021, an upgraded, cloud-based version of Moodle (Moodle in the Cloud), one of the campus learning management systems, is available for upcoming university courses. The current version of Moodle (Legacy Moodle) remains available for courses offered in spring 2021 and past semesters, including ad-hoc and community courses. More information

Courses

  • All upcoming Moodle courses starting in Summer 2021.
  • Summer 2021 courses
  • Fall 2021 courses.
  • Future Ad-hoc/community courses.
  • Any past courses, before Summer 2021.
  • Any Ad-hoc/community courses created before Summer 2021.

Students

Check SPIRE for the learning management system used in your courses.

 
  • Summer & fall 2021 courses and beyond.
  • Courses are available in Moodle during Preview Week (the week before the start of the term – e.g., May 10, 2021, for the first summer session; August 25, 2021, for fall 2021).
  • Submit assignments, take quizzes/exams, and complete tasks for spring 2021 and/or incompletes for past semesters.

Instructors

Be sure to tell students which version of Moodle they need to use for your course(s).

 
  • Create & maintain courses for summer 2021 and beyond.
  • Courses should be available to students during Preview Week, a week before the semester officially starts.
  • Complete grading & other course management tasks for spring 2021 and/or past courses.
