Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Tuesday, 11/17

November 17, 2020

On November 17, 2020, a new fraudulent phishing message began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email is sent by a person(s) posing as an executive on campus, and asks the recipient if they are free or available to “do something” or perform an action for them.

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

On November 17, 2020 a new fraudulent phishing began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email appears to have been sent by a person posing as an executive on campus (such as “Elsbeth Walker,” "Erica Scharrer," or "Allison Vorderstrasse," or others), and asks the recipient “Available, cellphone number?”

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Monday, 11/16

November 16, 2020

On November 16, 2020, a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject “Amherst Technology 11/16/2020” began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email notifies the recipient “You have 1 new Important Technical Notification from University of Massachusetts Amherst”. The links in the message direct the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass login page.

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

The email appears to have been sent by "Sonya Epstein," and asks the recipient to "carry out an essential task for me quickly as possible."

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.
