Blogs at UMass Amherst will be unavailable on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, from 8 a.m. to noon while UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) upgrades WordPress, our blogging software. This update will keep Blogs at UMass Amherst current with the latest improvements and updates from WordPress.
UMass Amherst IT will be upgrading Blogs at UMass Amherst from WordPress 4.9 to WordPress 5.4 and preparing for maintenance of our WordPress themes and plugins. This upgrade brings faster performance on new hardware, a long-awaited PHP upgrade, new themes, and plugin changes.
- Your blog's content (e.g., blog posts, images, plugins) will be automatically transferred from the old version to the new.

Additionally, to avoid information security risks, certain themes and plugins will be removed on Wednesday, June 10 at 8:00 a.m.
No downtime is involved. Replacement themes and plugins will be added with the upgrade, but migration is not automatic.
If applicable, you will need to apply a new theme and/or plugin(s) to your blog before June 10.
