Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Thursday, 11/21

On Thursday, November 21, 2019, a new fraudulent phishing message began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email is sent by a person(s) posing as an executive on campus, and asks the recipient if they are free or available to “do something” or perform an action for them.

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

Planned Maintenance: SPIRE, Moodle, Other Services Unavailable - Fri., 11/29, 5 p.m. - Midnight

On Friday, November 29, 2019, between 5 p.m. and midnight, SPIRE, UMass Amherst's student records system, and Moodle, one of the learning management systems on campus, will be unavailable while UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) performs planned system maintenance.

The email appears to have been sent by “Marty Meehan,” and asks the recipient to “reply me once you get this”.

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.
