Graduate Students: You're Getting Google Mail!

June 6, 2019

Starting tomorrow, Friday, June 7, 2019 at 2 p.m., all graduate student UMail accounts will be upgraded to UMass Amherst Google Mail.

This does not apply to graduate students already using Google Mail, Microsoft Exchange, or a department-provided email service.

Graduate students can log into apps.umass.edu with their NetID and password to access their university email, now powered by Google Mail.

UMass Amherst Google Mail F.A.Q.

UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) will transfer all UMail account content to the new Google Mail accounts this weekend (June 8-9).

During the move, graduate students can still access their UMail accounts, but new messages will go to the Google Mail inbox. No action is required on the part of the graduate students.

Once all messages are transferred to your Google Mail account:

  • Graduate students can access their entire inbox, folders, sent messages, and messages received during the upgrade.
  • All new incoming messages will go to the new Google Mail account.
  • Graduate student UMail accounts will be deactivated. After deactivation, the accounts will no longer be able to send or receive email.

If you are a graduate student and have any issues accessing your email, please contact IT User Services within 30 days at it@umass.edu or 413-545-TECH (545-8324).
