Starting this March, members of the campus community have a new anti-virus software available for their university-owned and personal computers. Under a new university-wide contract, Sophos Intercept X Advanced with EDR and Sophos Home will replace McAfee endpoint protection as the preferred anti-virus solution on campus.
- In departments where IT support is available, faculty and staff are encouraged to contact their IT support staff for more information on the Sophos software.
- For university-owned devices that are not managed by central IT or departmental IT staff, follow these instructions to download and install Sophos.
- The Sophos package is available at no cost for personally-owned computers for students, faculty, and staff. Follow these instructions to access the Sophos home use portal at home.sophos.com/edu/umass.
- IT professionals who manage and provide support for university-owned devices can join weekly Sophos migration meetings on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in 750 Du Bois Library.
If you are currently using university-provided McAfee endpoint protection on your computer(s), please remember to uninstall the software by March 31, 2019, when the university's contract with McAfee expires.
