The implementation of the Microsoft Exchange email throttling measure has been rescheduled from Tuesday, February 12 to Tuesday, February 19.

On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, a new email throttling measure goes into effect, restricting the number of outgoing emails from an account to 2,500 emails a day.
UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) is implementing this measure to minimize the security impact of compromised email accounts on the campus. When a compromised account sends massive amounts of spam, UMass Amherst email servers may be blacklisted by other email providers, which can result in email delivery delays or blocks for the entire campus.
Emails sent using email lists (Mailman) or Exchange distribution groups do not count against the quota. Members of the campus community who need to send email messages to over 2,500 recipients a day using Microsoft Exchange are encouraged to consult with their department’s IT or communications professional to determine a solution.
If you have any questions about the new email throttling measure, please contact IT User Services at email@example.com or 545-TECH (545-8324).
