Action required for systems running Windows 7, XP, 2003, & several Microsoft server operating systems

For university-owned computer, please contact the IT support specialist in your department if applicable. On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, Microsoft released a patch for a critical Remote Desktop flaw that affects Windows 7 as well as several server operating systems (Server 2008, Server 2008R2, and Server 2003). Because of the high severity of this flaw, Microsoft is also issuing patches for Windows XP and Windows 2003. 

Special WiFi Login Available for Commencement 2019 Guests

Family members and friends attending Commencement 2019 can connect their devices to the UMASS network with a special username and password!

At the login portal (example seen below), entering "UMASSGRAD19" as both their username and password will allow visitors to connect to the campus's unencrypted wireless network for guests all throughout this week's commencement events and ceremonies.

SPIRE Unavailable - Fri., 5/24 - Tues., 5/28

SPIRE, the student records system, will be unavailable between 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, and 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, while UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) performs a major software upgrade.

Blackboard Learn to be Unavailable - Sat. 5/11, 10 p.m. - Sun. 5/12, 4 a.m.

Blackboard Learn, one of the university's learning management systems, will be unavailable from Saturday, May 11 at 10:00 p.m. until Sunday, May 12 at 4:00 a.m. as part of a planned outage for service updates.

Students, faculty, and staff will not be able to access the system during this time and are asked to plan accordingly. 

GlobalProtect Replaces Pulse Secure for Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

Members of the campus community using IT’s VPN service to connect to the campus network can now switch to GlobalProtect, a more robust and secure solution, available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS and Android.

If you currently use VPN, check with your IT support contact, if applicable, or use our instructions to download and install GlobalProtect before October 15, 2019. You may need to enroll in our two-step login process to use GlobalProtect.
