Misra Named Interim Vice Chancellor for Information Technology & CIO

Christopher Misra, a senior member of the information technology (IT) department’s leadership team, has been named interim vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer (CIO). Misra, currently the interim deputy chief information officer, will assume the duties of Julie Buehler, the departing CIO and vice chancellor for information services and strategy. About Christopher Misra

Christopher has worked on campus for IT since 1996, when he joined the staff as a network specialist. A 1999 graduate of UMass Amherst, Misra holds a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering. In his 22 years with UMass, he has served in many capacities in IT, including three years as chief technology officer and four years as the associate CIO for information security. In 2017, he was named interim deputy CIO responsible for IT operations across 225 staff to deliver IT services to the campus community. In addition, for many years Misra taught a class on computer and network security as an instructor in the department of computer science.

He has also served in several past and present leadership positions including: board member of the Northeast Research and Education Network; Technical Advisory Committee of InCommon Federation; chair of the Technical Advisory Committee for the Research and Education Network Information Security and Analysis Center; a member of the leadership team of the Higher Education Information Security Council; and as chair of the Internet2 Security Advisory Group. He also has presented at several national conferences related to IT security, sustainable scalable campus network architecture, and the future of IT.
