Sophos To Replace McAfee for Anti-Virus Protection at UMass Amherst

Starting this March, members of the campus community have a new anti-virus software available for their university-owned and personal computers. Under a new university-wide contract, Sophos Intercept X Advanced with EDR and Sophos Home will replace McAfee endpoint protection as the preferred anti-virus solution on campus.

Microsoft Imagine is now Azure Dev Tools for Teaching

The Microsoft Imagine program, which offers eligible UMass Amherst STEM undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff a wide range of Microsoft products at no cost, is now called Azure Dev Tools for Teaching.

As well as continuing to offer all of the same no-cost products and tools, Azure Dev Tools for Teaching now includes access to training and learning materials from Microsoft Learn.

Graduate Students: Switch from UMail to Google Mail Today

Starting today, February 26, 2019, graduate students can switch their university email account from UMail to UMass Amherst Google Mail. Google Mail is part of Apps at UMass Amherst, Google’s suite of productivity and collaboration tools customized especially for our campus.

This does not apply to graduate students already using Google Mail, Microsoft Exchange, or a department-provided email service.

Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Friday, 2/22

On February 22, 2019, a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject "[IMPORTANT]: Employment Document Verification" began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email appears to have been sent by "Office of the Registrar," notifies the recipient "As we are heading towards the end of the year, we are putting in place employee verification’s," and contains a PDF attachment. The attachment in the message asks for the recipient’s password.
