Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Friday 10/30

October 30, 2020

On October 30, 2020 a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject “Quick Response” began targeting UMass Amherst email users. The email appears to have been sent by “Jennifer Randall,” and tells the recipient “Give me your available text number that I can reach you.” 

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

October 28, 2020

On October 28, 2020 a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject “1 Impοrtant pending message” began targeting UMass Amherst email users. The email appears to have been sent by “IT Service Desk,” and tells the recipient “You have 1 important message from IT Service Desk.” The message includes a link to "View," which directs the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass Amherst login page.

October 27, 2020

On October 27, 2020 a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject “Rapid reaction!!!” began targeting UMass Amherst email users. The email appears to have been sent by “Ray K Mann,” and asks the recipient “Can i ask a favor from you?”

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.

October 23, 2020

On October 23, 2020 a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject “Kind send your personal cellphone number” began targeting UMass Amherst email users. The email appears to have been sent by “Glenn Barrington,” and asks the recipient to “Send your personal cellphone number”.

Caution: This email did not come from the University of Massachusetts. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into providing your personal information or other things of value.
