Retirees from UMass Amherst may keep most of their computer services after they leave. You will receive an email from IT explaining how to extend your services.
If you are leaving UMass and not retiring, your computer account will be deactivated shortly after you leave. Please consider the following:
Back up Your Files
Make copies of all the important files you have stored using one of our services. These may include information on Box, blog entries, your personal website, emails, Google Drive files, and Google Calendar data.
- Download your Echo360 recording files. See Downloading Content From Your Library on the Echo360 support site.
- Download a copy of personal photos, files, or work in UMass Amherst Google Drive or OneDrive so you don't lose anything when your account expires. This includes Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and online versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. More information and other things to consider
- Export your WordPress site to your computer or other storage device. See WordPress Websites at UMass Amherst.
- Save personal Exchange or Gmail emails.
- Export any Google Calendar data you have created.
- Migrate the contents of any of your UMass Create domains.
Special Extensions
Account services are automatically extended for members of the Armed Forces who were active students or employees at the time of their deployment. The extension is only valid for the duration of these individuals' active duty.
