Computer Maintenance & Repair Services

Computer Maintenance & Repair Services Update:

After careful consideration and evaluation, UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) will discontinue its computer hardware repair center services effective end of business day on 3/15/2024.

This decision was informed by factors such as shifting technology trends, evolving user needs, and the availability of alternative solutions. UMass IT has observed a steady decline in the utilization of the computer hardware repair center services and a growing reliance on external repair services, which have become more accessible and convenient for many individuals. For continued convenience, the campus community can continue to drop off and pick up equipment for repairs at the University Store, which will send out and receive equipment repairs back from the appropriate manufacturer on your behalf.

What is changing:

  • All current equipment repair requests dropped off to the University Store by 2/25/24, will be processed by the IT Computer Repair Center and completed as long as parts can be ordered and received by 3/8/24.
  • After 2/25/2024, any equipment dropped off for repair to the University Store will be sent out directly to the respective vendor rather than repaired by IT.

The decision to discontinue the computer hardware repair services is part of our ongoing commitment to adapt to the changing needs of our community and optimize our resources to better serve you. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition. Please contact the IT Service Desk (413-545-9400 or email it@umass.edu with any questions.

Please be advised that the services listed below are available through end of business day on 2/24/2024. Any equipment dropped off for repair as of 2/25/2024 will be sent out directly to the respective vendor rather than repaired by IT.

The technical staff in the IT Repair Center can repair computers and some mobile devices. They are Authorized Warranty Service Providers for Dell, Apple, and Lenovo and can repair these computers (except IdeaPad and Essential lines) under the terms of their warranties. We sell and install system components including wireless cards, memory, and hard drives.
