Two-Step Login

The University is in the process of implementing two-step login (also known as multi-factor authentication or MFA) for select IT services. Two-step login increases security by requiring more than one step to confirm your identity when logging in to computer systems, applications and networks.

Once you have enrolled and log in to a two-step login enabled service with your UMass NetID and password, you will be prompted for an additional authentication factor by any of the following methods you choose:

  • phone call to your landline phone or mobile phone.
  • push notification or a passcode via the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device (smartphone, tablet, etc.)
  • text message (SMS) to your mobile device.

Two-step login will initially be implemented on the UMass Human Resources Peoplesoft applications (HR Direct) on August 1, 2017, and other IT select services in Fall/Winter 2017.

All users of HRDirect should sign up for the two-step login service before December 2017, to help protect their sensitive information.

Additional updates will be provided as part of the planning and implementation process for each service.
