The Institute for Social Science Research offers graduate students several professional development opportunities related to both research and funding:
- In partnership with the UMass-Amherst Graduate School, ISSR holds hands-on sessions designed to help graduate students strengthen their applications to the University’s Dissertation Research Grant Program and to the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program.
- ISSR hosts free skills-building workshops throughout the academic year to introduce graduate students and faculty to specific software and/or research techniques. During the summer, students can register at a reduced rate for fee-based, in-depth sessions.
- Advanced graduate student consultants also offer free one-on-one assistance related to social science methods and statistical analysis, with support from the Graduate School.
For additional help finding grant funding opportunities, graduate students should visit the Graduate School's Office of Professional Development (OPD). OPD staff maintain a valuable blog dedicated to finding resources for UMass Graduate Students and Postdocs, and have the expertise and tools to help you find the funding you need.
