Description:
In this two day (6-hour) workshop, participants will be introduced to the environment of Rstudio, and data management concepts and techniques using the R programming language. No previous experience with R is required.
The goal is to equip participants with R programming skills that will support their research. Sample data and worksheets will be provided. We will focus on getting familiar with Rstudio in the morning, and move to data management skills in the afternoon. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to perform basic data management and generate histograms and scatterplots in R.
If participants have specific questions about using R for their own research projects following the workshop, they are encouraged to make appointments for individual consultations.
The following topics will be covered in the workshop:
- Introduction to the RStudio environment
- Reading and importing data from various sources, including Stata, csv, Excel, and SPSS
- Creating tables of descriptive statistics
- Data Management: selecting and reshaping data, merging datasets, and creating new variables
- Generating bivariate graphs, including histograms and scatter plots
