One of the greatest benefits of using R for statistical analyses is its flexibility in defining and reshaping data structures. This workshop is designed for individuals who wish to become more comfortable manipulating data outside of a spreadsheet format. Participants will review a range of techniques for defining, reorganizing, and summarizing data in R using base functions as well as functions from the dplyr and reshape2 packages. Participants should have some prior experience with R.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define new data structures (vectors, matrices, data frames, arrays, and lists)
- Reshape data between wide and long formats
- Create subsets of larger data structures and combine separate data structures
- Transform data using conditional statements or by applying summary statistics
