The growth of social media platforms provides a great opportunity for researchers from different fields to engage with a diverse range of data sets. In this workshop, you will learn about the benefits and limitations of using social media content for qualitative research.

This workshop will cover a variety of ways to collect data from various social media platforms, such as Facebook, X (Twitter), and YouTube, while remaining mindful of specific challenges and dilemmas related to this kind of data collection. This session will discuss the benefits and challenges of engaging with social media data collection and analysis, address available tools to capture and manage digital data (NCapture for NVivo), ethical concerns, and ways to examine (collect and analyze) digital content. Prior qualitative research experience is necessary. Because the NCapture for NVivo tool will be presented, basic familiarity with NVivo will be useful.
