Stata is a statistics software broadly used for social analysis. This workshop is an intermediate course in Stata devoted to those who want to level up their game using maps. At the end of the workshop, participants will acquire the skills to use Stata for presenting geographical data. Previous experience with Stata is recommended.
In the first half of the workshop, the participants will familiarize themselves with shapefiles and the options of the Stata command spmap. In the following hour, the participants will learn how to customize their own maps using these functions.
Please note that the course will use Stata for PC. A few commands and functionalities differ in Stata for Mac, but Mac users are also encouraged to attend the workshop.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Find sh
- Correct common mistakes when the file is imported from other sources
- Search for outliers and impossible values
- Being aware of working with strings for data cleaning
- Merge datasets with numeric or string identifiers
- Append information to a dataset
