Stata is a statistics software broadly used for social analysis. This workshop is an introductory course in Stata devoted to those who are not familiar with Stata (yet).  At the end of the workshop, participants will acquire the skills to use Stata for conducting statistical analyses. No previous experience with Stata is assumed. 

In the first half of the workshop, the participants will familiarize themselves with the drop-down menus and the basic commands in Stata. In the following hour, the participants will learn the basic syntax of some of the most commonly used "commands" to create correlations, summary statistics, tables, and a basic regression.

Please note that the course will use Stata for PC. A few commands and functionalities differ in Stata for Mac, but Mac users are also encouraged to attend the workshop.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Know the basics about Stata environment
  • Import data from a csv or an excel file
  • Create basic descriptive statistics
  • Run a simple regression
  • Create a basic graph
