Hello and welcome to the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
At ISSR, our mission is to promote excellence in social science research. We strengthen the campus' existing social science infrastructure for faculty and graduate student scholars with a variety of programs that are designed to: 1) support the development of methodological skills and tools for social scientists, 2) advance the meaningful participation of social scientists in interdisciplinary collaboration, 3) assist in the development of proposals and administration of funded research projects, and 4) promote the visibility of cutting-edge social science research.
Founded in 2012, ISSR builds upon resources developed within the Department of Sociology and the Social and Demographic Research Institute (SADRI). The Institute for Social Science Research is located in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. We welcome participation of the faculty and graduate students across the departments and programs of SBS, and of social scientists located across the other colleges of UMass Amherst. This includes faculty and graduate students, for example, in the College of Education, College of Humanities and Fine Arts, Isenberg School of Management, College of Natural Sciences, College of Nursing, and School of Public Health.
We also strive to support excellence in interdisciplinary collaboration, which means that natural and physical scientists and engineers are welcome to contact us about opportunities for collaboration with social scientists. We welcome participants from across the region and around the world in our summer workshops. We are interested in discussing and pursuing collaboration with other institutional partners, so please do not hesitate to contact us. I thank you for your interest in the Institute for Social Science Research and hope to see you at our upcoming events.
