Karishma Mistry

University College Cork, Ireland Exchange

Hello hello! My name is Karishma Mistry and I am a senior Public Health and Economics double major with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. I studied abroad in Cork, Ireland at the University College Cork in the Spring 2022 semester. Going abroad was one of the best experiences, and I am so grateful I got the chance to go. I loved really getting to know Cork and interacting with locals as well as the other study abroad students from all over the world. While abroad, I had the opportunity to both explore Ireland and travel all over Europe. I went to France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and even Romania! And of course, as a big foodie, I ate my way across Europe. The classic Irish sausages and pints of Guinness were staples in my diet while I sampled the best pasta, pizza, and paella while traveling. Some of my favorite moments were running around Cork, meeting up with my flatmates, doing school work in the many local coffee shops or on the beautiful UCC campus, and of course, getting distracted and planning our next trip.

My biggest piece of advice is to just do it! Thinking about studying abroad? Do it! Already abroad and thinking of going on a weekend trip? Do it! Your flatmate invited you out to get coffee? Say yes! Studying abroad is all about expanding your horizons personally and academically, experiencing a new culture, and gaining a new perspective on life. IPO and your support system in your host country are always there to help you manage any worries.
