Asia
Freeman-ASIA
- Summer awards up to $3,000; Semester up to $5,000; Academic Year up to $7,000
- Must be undergrad and U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must have demonstrated financial need, minimum 2.8 GPA, and applying to an approved program in East or Southeast Asia
- There is only one application cycle per year, so for spring study abroad, students must apply in the spring of the prior year.
Fund for Education Abroad: Hiliary Echo Douglas Scholarship
- Awarded to one student each year planning to study abroad in Vietnam or within other Southeast Asian cultures
- Awards up to $10,000 for academic year programs and $5,000 for semester programs. Summer awards vary based on program duration
- Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, UMass undergraduate on an approved program with minimum duration of 28 days
- Preference to students of color, first-generation college students, and students with high financial need
Germany
Baden-Württemberg Scholarships
- Undergraduates may receive scholarships of up to €400 per month; Graduate students may receive up to €500 per month
- UMass students participating in the exchange with the universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Hohenheim, Konstanz, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Tübingen, and Ulm are automatically considered. You do not need to complete a separate scholarship application
- Proficiency in German is not a requirement for all courses of study
Baden-Württemberg Stipendium
- €600-€1,400 awarded per month depending on the length of your program
- For UMass undergraduate and graduate students participating in the exchange with the universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Hohenheim, Konstanz, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Tübingen, and Ulm
- Proficiency in German is not a requirement for all courses of study
DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service
- Various grants and scholarships available, often a monthly stipend, travel subsidy, or other financial support is awarded based on type of study and length of stay
- Study, research, and internship grants are for graduating seniors, and graduate students to study in Germany
- Proficiency in German is not a requirement for all courses of study
DAAD – Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)
- Monthly scholarship of €861, with minimum internship length of 10 weeks and maximum internship length of 3 months.
- Must be a full-time undergraduate currently enrolled at UMass in the field of biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field); have completed at least 2 years of a degree program by the time of the internship placement; and prove that they will maintain undergraduate status after the internship has taken place
- Proficiency in German is not required
Ireland
Trinity College Dublin (TCD) Study Abroad Scholarships
- Generation Study Abroad Scholarship: must be undergrad accepted to TCD for semester or year (non-exchange) with minimum 3.3 GPA and Pell Grant recipient. Two scholarships of €2,000
- STEM Study Abroad Scholarship: must be undergrad with declared STEM major at UMass and accepted to TCD for semester or year (non-exchange) with minimum 3.3 GPA. Must enroll in 10 ECTS in STEM modules at Trinity. Scholarship award = €1,000
- Academic Year Study Abroad Excellence Scholarship: must be undergrad who demonstrates academic excellence in area of study and be accepted to TCD for academic year (non-exchange) with minimum 3.3 GPA. Must enroll in at least 25 ETCS at Trinity. Scholarship award = €3,000
- Study Abroad Excellence Scholarship: must be undergrad who demonstrates academic excellence in area of study and be accepted to TCD for semester or academic year (non-exchange) with minimum 3.3 GPA. Must enroll in at least 25 ETCS at Trinity. Scholarship award = €1,000
Education in Ireland awarded through the Fund for Education Abroad
- General awards of up to $5,000
- Tuition waivers for Partner Providers (non-exchange) at Trinity College Dublin, University of Galway, and University of Limerick.
To be eligible for an FEA scholarship, you must be:
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at U.S. institution of higher education (graduate students are not eligible)
- Receiving credit at your home institution for the study abroad program
Japan
Bridging Scholarships
- A stipend of $2,500 for semester-long programs or $4,500 for academic year programs
- For undergrad U.S. citizens participating in an approved study abroad program in Japan
The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship Program
- May support up to the full cost of attendance to the study abroad program of the applicant’s choice, award is determined by financial need and program costs.
- Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need for international study, currently in good academic standing, and will be enrolled in a credit-bearing course of study at a college, university or approved academic center in Japan in the upcoming academic year
- Preference for applicants who have been raised by a single parent or who have lost both parents, applicants without significant international travel or study experience, and first generation students
