Global Partnerships

On Wednesday, May 22, UMass Amherst hosted Dr. Christine Rubas, Director of the International Office (International Study Programs and Exchanges) and Nicole (Nici) Sauer, U.S. Exchange Counselor & Partnership Support at the University of Tübingen. UMass Amherst has a longstanding exchange program with universities in Baden-Württemberg. Since 1964, this State-to-State program in conjunction with the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts has facilitated academic and cultural exchanges between the two regions. Baden-Württemberg, known for its economic strength and international corporate headquarters, offers a rich environment for students to study and engage with German culture. Additionally, UMass Amherst’s German and Scandinavian Studies program provides research and teaching opportunities in various fields, including Black German Studies; Cultural Studies; Film Studies; Gender and Sexuality Studies; German-Jewish Studies; GDR and DEFA Film Studies; Holocaust Studies; Intellectual History; Medieval Studies; Minority Studies; STEM German; Theater and Performance Studies; Transnationalism; and Turkish German Studies.  

Delegates joined in conversations regarding academic programming, on-going student exchanges, and classroom technology during meetings with Dr. Kerstin Mueller Dembling, Senior Lecturer, Language Program Coordinator & Undergraduate Program Director, German and Scandinavian Studies, Dr. Tilman Wolf, Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Associate Chancellor for Space and Capital Planning, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering , Dr. Kalpen Trivedi, Vice Provost for Global Affairs, Emily Ostenson, Assistant Director of Education Abroad, Claire Novotny, Exchange Program Manager, and Eric Wirth, Manager of Global Partnerships.
