Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) Portal

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has the SEVP Portal to assist F-1 students on OPT and STEM OPT. The SEVP Portal is optional. 

ISSS does not oversee the SEVP Portal and cannot advise students about it. Basic information is below.  

• Once approved and your EAD start date is current, SEVP will send an email to your UMass email account listed in your SEVIS record. The link to create your account will expire in 31 days. You should create a SEVP Portal account when you receive the email from @email even if you do not have updates at that time. 

• You will not receive an updated I-20 when using the portal. If you would like an I-20, use ISSS’ reporting forms: for OPT and STEM OPT.  

• If you get locked out of your SEVP Portal, contact your ISSS Advisor to reset it.
   
• Remember to update your address in SPIRE. 

• You may edit an employer record that you submit to the SEVP Portal, but do not delete previous employers unless you entered them by mistake. Doing so will impact your unemployment counter. When leaving a job, simply add the end date to your old employer, and initiate a new record for your new employer.  

• You will receive one email indicating that your SEVP Portal will close. SEVP Portal accounts will become "Read Only"16 days after your OPT or STEM OPT extension ends. You will lose access approximately 6 months after your OPT/STEM OPT ends. ISSS advises you to take screen shots of your portal information before you lose access.
