Recreating the Brain to Transform Drug Discovery
Beatriz Martinez-Martin, a PhD candidate in UMass Amherst’s Molecular and Cellular Biology Program, is developing a device that creates next-generation lab-grown brain models that more closely replicate the structure and function of the human brain. By making neurological research more accurate and reducing reliance on animal testing, her innovation has the potential to accelerate drug development and improve treatments for brain diseases.
