Institute for Applied Life Sciences
The Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) helps bring research that benefits human health and well-being to the forefront of today’s market. IALS helps you identify your research’s potential by translating your innovations into products and services. Law “office hours” also provide support for navigating the legal process of launching a startup.
Patent and Trademark Resource Center
The UMass Amherst Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) librarian and materials are located in the Science and Engineering Library in the Lederle Graduate Research Center. As one of only two designated PTRCs in Massachusetts, the center provides support for trademark and patent searches, the application process, and general intellectual property questions.
Technology Transfer Office
The Technology Transfer Office at UMass Amherst helps convert research from our labs into marketable industries and startup companies. Find support for invention disclosures, the patenting process, software licensing, sponsored research, and more. The office also includes tech transfer services for the creative arts.
UMass Innovation Institute
Located at the Charles River Campus in Newton, the UMass Innovation Institute helps connect faculty researchers with technology partners and industry collaborators. The Charles River Campus Innovation Space provides a space for faculty and early-stage companies in the Boston area to co-discover the market potential of research.
Glass Family Faculty Innovation Fellows
The Glass Family Faculty Innovation Fellows program champions faculty-led innovation, entrepreneurial thinking, and the translation of research into real-world impact. The innovation fellowship annually supports two to three full-time faculty within the Riccio College of Engineering to showcase their work and connect them with funding to support ideation, product development, and commercialization.
