Here we will keep everyone updated about the recent accomplishments of our IMSD students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst including conferences attended and those that they have presented at, any grants/scholarships/funding our students receive, along with any awards/honors, and other items of importance.
Celina Abundis
Celina Abundis was selected to receive full-funding for the 25th ICAR (International Conference on Arabidopsis Steering Committee) in Vancouver, Canada. It is organized by the North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee and will take place from July 28-August 1, 2014 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
Bryan Salas-Santiago
In mid-February, Bryan's paper: " A screen for Saccharomyces cerevisiae Essential Genes with an Opi Phenotype" was accepted into the journal G3 (Genes/Genomes/Genetics). The paper's main focus revolves around the subject of genetics. The future direction is to figure out how these genes are misrelating the phospholipid biosynthetic pathway. Eventually, the end goal is to understand the phospholipid biosynthetic pathway which is conserved from yeast in humans. Congratulations Bryan and we wish you success with your future research into this topic.
Judy Ventura
At the end of 2013, Judy Ventura successfully completed the ICE/IGERT Traineeship. Judy was originally chosen for this position in 2011. Due to this achievement, she is now eligible to receive a Graduate Certificate in Cellular Engineering, which she will be accepting soon. In the summer of 2013, Judy was hired by the company Boehringer Ingelheim in Ridgefield, Connecticut as a summer intern in the Analytical Development Department. This internship lasted for 3 months (June 3, 2103 - August 30, 2013). During this time, she was invited to present her research to the Analytical department. Congratulation Judy and keep up the great work!
