Moodle Updates for Instructors
- Access to Moodle will end following the conclusion of the Spring 2025 semester. Students will lose access on June 9, 2025, and instructors will lose access on July 1, 2025. After these dates, Moodle will no longer be available for any access.
- SPIRE has been configured to allow only Canvas courses to be requested, where the majority of courses will be taught. Please refer to the step-by-step instructions on how to request a course in Canvas.
- Moodle courses can be requested only through this exception form. Exception forms will require Dean-level approval along with a justification for remaining in the legacy LMS. Instructors can login to ServiceNow and view the Moodle Exception Form.
All instructors teaching in Moodle in Spring 2025 should plan to share course materials and any necessary assessments to students outside of an LMS when resolving incompletes. This may involve creating a shared Google Drive space, or developing assessments in similar non-LMS tools such as Google or Microsoft forms. Please reach out to IDEAS using the support resources below to develop a plan for resolving incompletes.
If you have yet to complete the transition to Canvas, please complete a course migration form to begin a transfer of your content. Questions about the Moodle transition? Please refer to the Moodle Transition FAQ for instructors, or reach out to IDEAS for support.
Before July 1: Back Up Moodle Course Materials
Before instructors lose access on July 1, it is recommended to take the following steps to preserve course materials, student work, and a copy of your course:
- Back up your course content: In order to preserve the records of your Moodle course, you will need to save a copy locally.
- Download instructor files: To easily access files for future courses, we recommend downloading all files such as PowerPoints, Word docs, PDFs, and other uploads.
- Export your gradebook and Download assignment submissions: Backups and migrations of your course content will not include any student grade records or submissions. Export your gradebook to ensure access beyond the Spring semester.
