The Certificate in Open Pedagogy offers formal training in open pedagogy as grounded in the principles of social justice, a community of peers, and expert instructors in order to transform learning to be more accessible and inclusive. IDEAS is accepting applications for a faculty member to collaborate with an Educational Developer to receive a certification in open pedagogy

Participants will complete a nine-week long, asynchronous course in the spring of 2025 about the range of open educational practices with modules on the hallmarks of open education, copyright and Creative Commons licensing, the hallmarks of open pedagogy, the benefits and limitations of open pedagogy, accessibility, and student empowerment and agency. Participants should expect to commit approximately 3-5 hours weekly during the asynchronous portion.  During this time the faculty and Educational Developer will create an Action Plan for a new or revised lesson, unit, or other educational experience that uses an open pedagogical framework.

Participants who successfully complete the full program will

  • receive a Certificate in Open Pedagogy from the Open Education Network (University of Minnesota),
  • receive 60 Continuing Educational Units (CEUs),
  • create or revise a lesson, unit, or other educational experience that they wish to transform through the lens of open pedagogy, and
  • pilot their transformed lesson, unit, or other educational experience in the Fall 2025.

Deadline:

  • IDEAS is accepting applications until October 21, 2024.
  • Applicants will be notified by October 22, 2024.
  • Applicants will work with an Educational Developer to submit a full application for the Certificate in Open Pedagogy by November 1, 2024.  Acceptance into the Certificate in Open Pedagogy is competitive.

IDEAS will sponsor the $770 cost for one faculty member to collaborate with an Educational Developer in this year-long experience.
