Workshop: How to Create a Spinout and Impact Plan

  • Spring 2025

-

Location: ZOOM

Spinning out university research into a new, ultimately self-sustaining organization to have positive impact requires more than R&D, e.g, identifying significant unmet needs, securing resources, developing a team, and defining a business model. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to eight key elements that form the basis of an initial Spinout and Impact Plan:

  1. Mission/purpose
  2. The unmet need/opportunity to be addressed
  3. Product/service candidates (solutions) based on university research
  4. A differentiation plan (what makes the solution different and better)
  5. Intellectual property plan
  6. The team
  7. Potential business model(s)
  8. Resources to support development into a self-sufficient enterprise

This program is specifically designed for Translational Seed Award full proposal applicants, but all are welcome. Materials will be distributed electronically in advance. To maximize the value of this workshop, please plan to be engaged in workshop activities throughout. Team members are strongly encouraged to register individually, but plan to attend on Zoom at a single location to enable group work.
