Associate Director of the Center for Bioactive Delivery
Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Choi’s research focuses on the design and development of magnetically actuated
micro/nanorobots for targeted therapy and minimally invasive treatments, magnetic manipulation systems for precise control of cells, viruses, and therapeutic agents, and piezoelectric MEMS/NEMS devices for advanced sensing and actuation. In addition, the lab explores magnetically controlled vascular intervention systems and intelligent platforms for in vitro and in vivo cell and drug delivery. These efforts aim to revolutionize diagnostics, therapeutics, neural interfacing, and regenerative medicine. His previous work has led to breakthroughs in artificial neural circuits, robotic systems for precision medicine, and smart biomedical tools that bridge the gap between technology and clinical need. By closely collaborating with clinicians, academic researchers, and industry partners, his team is driving the translation of lab innovations into real-world applications.
Current Research:
Dr. Choi’s laboratory is dedicated to pioneering next-generation technologies at the intersection of micro/nanorobotics, biomedical devices, BioMEMS/NEMS, smart sensors and actuators, and intelligent medical systems. By integrating robotics, engineering, medicine, biology, and AI, his group takes a cross-disciplinary approach to address critical challenges in human health and well-being.
The long-term vision of Dr. Choi’s lab is to create transformative biomedical technologies that improve existing treatments and enable entirely new approaches for complex and incurable diseases. Through this mission, the lab seeks to make meaningful contributions to healthcare and open pathways for collaboration, tech transfer, and entrepreneurship.
