Worker Artists Celebrate Exhibition at the UMass Museum of Contemporary Art

In January, the UMass University Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA) invited a group of worker artists to take part in their current, interdisciplinary exhibition, “We Are For Freedoms” - part of a national initiative - and to craft their own responses to the exhibit's call for art, “What does freedom mean to you?”

These original works will be on display at the UMCA for a special pop-up exhibition on Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., to join the initial responses to this provocative and timely question.

Director of Communication and Marketing at IALS, Lisa Korpiewski, along with Barbara Hastings, Donna Vanasse, Karen Hakala, Malini Sinha, Michelle St. Martin, Sarah Jarman, Shara Denson and Wayne Gagnon participated in a course hosted by Building Bridges and The Partnership for Worker Education, including sessions to review the initial artistic responses and to dialogue with each other.

The resulting creative works reflect the profund task of grappling with such a question during a global pandemic along with campus closure. Join us to celebrate this exhibition of creative work. The event begins at 5 p.m., with the performance of an original song by Donna Vanasse at 5:15 p.m. To-go snacks will be provided and masks are required in the museum.
