IALS-affiliated trainees to attend Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy 2025

Priyanka Bhattacharyya and Sarah Mirza

Since 2019, the IALS research centers and the Light Microscopy core facility has supported sending trainees to a week-long, intensive light microscopy training. This spring doctoral candidates, Priyanka Bhattacharyya (chemistry, You lab) and Sarah Mirza (veterinary and animal sciences, Mager lab) will attend Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy 2025 held at the beautiful Mt. Desert Island Biological Laboratory.

These two students were chosen from a highly competitive pool of interdisciplinary applicants from the UMass Amherst campus. Over the years, this funding has supported the tuition for 16 IALS-affiliated trainees. This is an international course in fluorescence microscopy and imaging for advanced graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, imaging core managers and researchers at all levels who are incorporating the technology into their laboratories.

After completion of the course in May, Priyanka and Sarah will be offering workshops, meetings, and other venues to share their experiences, knowledge and expertise in these new cutting-edge microscopic methods. Stay tuned!
