We’re delighted to welcome you to the Collaboratory community at UMass Amherst. This guide will help you settle in, get oriented, and make the most of your time here. If you have any questions along the way, we are here to help.

 

What Do I Do If...

General requests (building/space needs, card access, etc) ASK IALS at umass.tfaforms.net/f/public-ask-ials

In the event of an emergency, UMass police can be contacted at 413-545-3111 or by calling 911 and stating your location as the UMass Amherst campus.

If you encounter an urgent building issue that should be addressed immediately, you can contact the facilities hotline (staffed 24/7/365) at (413) 545-6401.

How to Get Started

  • Reach out to [email protected] to be connected with a Collaboratories specialist. Include a high-level overview of your company’s mission and goals and intended activities in the Collaboratory.
  • Review the terms of the Space Use License Agreement.
  • If you have no objections to the terms, your intended use of the space will be reviewed by UMass Environmental Health and Safety, and the UMass Technology Transfer Office.
  • Once approved, you will obtain Insurance as defined in the Space Use License Agreement
  • We will prepare the Agreement, attach your Certificate of Insurance and circulate for final signatures.

Getting Started, Post-Contract

  1. We will request NENS/Spire account and access cards for you and your team.Your NENS account gives you access to safety trainings, wifi network and door access cards.
  2. You will visit Parking Services for a parking permit, if needed.During business hours (7 a.m. - 5 p.m.) a parking permit is required.
    1. Parking permits are available through UMass Transportation & Parking Services. Note: available permit lots are about a 15-minute walk from the Collaboratory.
    2. For guest parking, use the Temporary Permit System.
    3. Metered parking is nearby, plan to arrive early to secure a space.
    4. After hours Lot 63 does not require permit, but Lot 72 requires one at all times.
  3. We will introduce you to Fiscal Services to set up a CORUM account and payment preference.
  4. We will request a mailbox in LSL N306 for you.
  5. We will create a SciShield Account for You to assign Lab Safety Trainings to your team.
  6. We will provide information to setup WIFI access. UMass Amherst uses Eduroam for secure wireless access using your NENS (Non-Employee, Non-Student) account. Setup instructions can be found in the Eduroam Setup Guides.
