In the event of an emergency, UMass police can be contacted at 413-545-3111 or by calling 911 and stating your location as the UMass Amherst campus.
If you encounter an urgent building issue that should be addressed immediately, you can contact the facilities hotline (staffed 24/7/365) at (413) 545-6401.

How to Get Started
- Reach out to [email protected] to be connected with a Collaboratories specialist. Include a high-level overview of your company’s mission and goals and intended activities in the Collaboratory.
- Review the terms of the Space Use License Agreement.
- If you have no objections to the terms, your intended use of the space will be reviewed by UMass Environmental Health and Safety, and the UMass Technology Transfer Office.
- Once approved, you will obtain Insurance as defined in the Space Use License Agreement
- We will prepare the Agreement, attach your Certificate of Insurance and circulate for final signatures.
Getting Started, Post-Contract
- We will request NENS/Spire account and access cards for you and your team.Your NENS account gives you access to safety trainings, wifi network and door access cards.
- You will visit Parking Services for a parking permit, if needed.During business hours (7 a.m. - 5 p.m.) a parking permit is required.
- Parking permits are available through UMass Transportation & Parking Services. Note: available permit lots are about a 15-minute walk from the Collaboratory.
- For guest parking, use the Temporary Permit System.
- Metered parking is nearby, plan to arrive early to secure a space.
- After hours Lot 63 does not require permit, but Lot 72 requires one at all times.
- We will introduce you to Fiscal Services to set up a CORUM account and payment preference.
- We will request a mailbox in LSL N306 for you.
- We will create a SciShield Account for You to assign Lab Safety Trainings to your team.
- We will provide information to setup WIFI access. UMass Amherst uses Eduroam for secure wireless access using your NENS (Non-Employee, Non-Student) account. Setup instructions can be found in the Eduroam Setup Guides.
Common lab equipment for research, including:
- Chemical fume hoods
- Deionized water, vacuum, air, and gas supply
- Autoclaves, ice machines
- Chemical waste disposal
If you require specific tools or resources, some may be available through the UMass Amherst Core Facilities. Please contact Seth Glass, Director of Core Facilities, to discuss your needs.
- Rent fees are charged on a monthly basis through our CORUM platform.
- Our accounting team will generate a user account for you, which initiates order email updates.
- Contacts can log into this system to track orders, but it is not necessary.
- The email notice entitled “CORUM Invoice” will include the final monthly invoice with payment information.
- Please contact the accounting team for payment options.

Mount Ida Innovation and Collaboration Space
As a Collaboratory tenant you are eligible to use coworking desks, lab benches, and conference space on the Mount Ida campus in Newton, MA. To make a reservation or request more information contact Kathryn Ellis, Director, UMass Innovation Institute, [email protected].
There is a dedicated shuttle service between the Amherst and Mt. Ida campuses. Reservations are required and approved on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a spot submit a form on the Mt. Ida Shuttle website.
