Research Themes:
This theme aims to understand, test, and develop novel approaches to the delivery of protein, antibodies & cells. Proteins and antibodies are key signaling molecules used by cells naturally, and have track records as therapeutics; however, their susceptibility to degradation and inability to cross membrane barriers for intracellular delivery require carefully designed co-delivery vehicles and, at a larger scale, the timing and dose of their delivery can be controlled through carefully engineered systems. Delivered cells can directly partake in biological activity or direct local cell function, and it has been well-established that their co-delivery with biomaterials can enhance their survival and function. Our approaches open up opportunities in “undruggable” targets in oncology and in lysosomal storage diseases and explore healthy aging and tissue regeneration among other topics.
