The Massachusetts Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) provides eligible employees job- and benefits-protected leave for qualifying circumstances. Leave under the PFML runs concurrent with other leave entitlements under federal (eg, the federal Family Medical Leave Act), state and collective bargaining agreements .
To take advantage of the PFML employees must:
- Follow the University's standard leave application process, providing corresponding supporting documentation
- Submit an application to the Massachusetts Department of Family Medical Leave (DFML)
Note that PFML is an unpaid leave from the University (partial income can be approved and paid directly by the DFML) Prior to applying for PFML leave employees may wish to estimate their PFML income replacement and review the impact of unpaid leave on benefits.
