Peace Tables

Think of your favorite sushi roll, a fragrant plate of biryani, a creamy Italian risotto, or a sizzling pan of Spanish paella. Add jollof rice, Louisiana gumbo, Korean bibimbap, and Mexican arroz rojo, and you start to see how one humble grain feeds more than half the world.

Rice carries stories of migration, trade, labor, and family kitchens across every continent. It also faces real challenges from a changing climate.

Join Malcolm Sen to explore where your rice comes from, what it can teach us about hunger and sustainability, and why it matters for our shared future. Pull up a chair and continue the conversation over dinner presented by UMass Dining Chef Anthony Jung at HFA’s Peace Tables.

Space is limited, and registration is required. All UMass community members are welcome to RSVP.

Sponsored by the College of Education, the College of Humanities & Fine Arts, the College of Natural Sciences, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, in collaboration with UMass Dining.
