Incorporating Equitable Career Education Into Teaching Humanities & Fine Arts
Content
This workshop encourages incorporating career education into humanities and fine arts classes to promote equity and inclusion. Students struggle with economic hardships (including loan debt), unequal networking access, and a discriminatory job market; these pressures are even higher for marginalized students. As instructors, we cannot separate our classrooms from the world outside academia and its pressures on students. Career education is a social justice concern, and it is not in opposition to academia. Through a presentation and interactive activities, attendees will learn how career education can promote equity and inclusion, as well as brainstorm, share, and gain strategies for incorporating career education into their own classes across disciplines.
Presenters:
Nicole O'Connell, PhD candidate in English and an HFA career advisor
Jessica Keene, Lecturer of History and HFA Career Advisor
