On the Fringe
Through the Fringe Fest, theater students create brilliant original works, experimental productions, and more.
As the creative and cultural heart of UMass Amherst, HFA brings together scholars and artists from a wide range of disciplines.
Undergraduate Major Programs
Socially Responsible Scholars
HFA students are changemakers. When Karl Lyn, doctoral student in Afro-American Studies, was selected as a 2023 Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellows, he was honored to continue his work as a socially responsible scholar and educator who works toward equity and justice in and beyond the academy.
Students in HFA learn from esteemed faculty like Rebecca Lorimer Leonard, associate professor of English, who received a 2022-23 Distinguished Teaching Award. The award honors exemplary teaching at the highest institutional level.
Alumni as Changemakers
Inspiring, thoughtful, creative: HFA alumni do it all in a wide range of fields, from performing and visual arts and design to law, medicine, journalism, communications, education, and entrepreneurship. As students, you can gain access to this brilliant network of innovators ready to connect.
In the spotlight
Our goal is tied into two things: a longstanding interest by the Department of Architecture and its faculty to do outreach to the next generation of college students, and the intention of making this field—and our degree—accessible to everyone.
