Peter Bloom ’78 has been selected as the alumni speaker for the 2020 Celebration of Excellence ceremonies. The Celebration will be available on the Commonwealth Honors College website on Thursday, May 7, beginning at 6:30 pm.
Bloom, who earned his MBA at Harvard Business School after graduating from UMass, has been a successful leader in the business world, currently serving as a consultant and executive vice president of Operations Excellence at Teleperformance in Bonita Springs, Florida. His previous ventures include CEO of Costanzo’s Bakery Inc., president of Aegis Communications, and co-founder of Customer Operations Performance Center Inc., which has grown from a start-up to one of the world's leading authorities on operations management. Bloom currently serves as the Commonwealth Honors advisory board chair.
As a former member of the cross country and track and field teams at UMass, Bloom has been instrumental in providing scholarships, namely the Ken O’Brien Scholarship for current Honors students who may be participating in an intercollegiate Olympic sport at UMass Amherst. Bloom has also provided career advice to recent UMass alumnus such as Pete Merzbacher, whose bakery Philly Bread was recently named one of Forbes Magazine’s 100 Fastest Growing Inner-City Businesses.
“Peter has done a lot for the Honors College, as well as the track and field program, and has built a sense of community which I will definitely take with me after college,” Honors ’20 graduate and track and field athlete Jordan Howard said.
