Castañeda officially became dean on Sept. 1, 2020 after serving as chair and professor of the UMass communications department. Over her nineteen years at UMass, Castañeda has served as a Chancellor's Leadership Fellow, received the UMass President's Public Service Award, Distinguished Outreach Award, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Teaching Award, and Lilly Fellowship.
