The panel will discuss the challenge and opportunities involved in writing and assembling the largest collection of new scholarship on the History of the Holocaust in decades. Apart from the obvious issues of what to include and what to leave out from what has been an almost limitless field of research, this involved difficult calls on what the boundaries of the Holocaust are, and how deep to go in search of causes and consequences. Along the way, the brief given to authors was not just to review the existing scholarship, but also to offer new research, with the result that a wealth of new findings can be found across the collection’s four volumes. Represented on the panel are editors from each of the volumes as well as the general editor of the Cambridge History.
